The moth
moves like a sundial
into the cup's shadow
where movement ceases to exist.
We find him a darker place
which light cannot disturb.
Everything seems okay -
our vegetarian dishes,
the ersatz chicken and bacon.
The Barolo and Chablis go down well.
We are with a charming couple -
till they talk about films:
the original uncut version
of the Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
About the boiled-up pet rabbit
in the movie Fatal Attraction.
About a black and white video
they watch over and over;
small monkeys having the tops of their skulls
pushed through holes in special tables
where they are sliced off, their brains eaten.
Afterwards, when they have gone,
we release the oak coloured moth,
talk about blue butterflies in warm meadows,
about the red air balloon we saw
gently rising above dark woods.
