Cow’s distant cornet
blows across five fields
in mournful solitude.
A stand of three trees
pretends to be nothing,
one with its old green,
two with their no green,
spindly in their threesome
by the ragged wood.
Slither of sunlight
dresses the faraway rim,
buttering its stale crust.
