Talking to You
You heard the wheat cracking open
late one Sunday afternoon
whilst standing near Warblington Church.
Had stopped by fields to listen for bird song,
but the sound was of husks splitting
revealing their core.
As time passed, the sound organised
itself into notes, tapping notes
a concert beginning, the conductor
holding a bright round baton
above this field, where you had
stopped to listen for bird song.
