No life is inviolate
No life is inviolate, unquestionable,
every facet integral,
each advance to truth straight, beyond reproach.
Monitoring must always be conducted
on shifting sand, with sliding
footstep, continual reassessment.
When the pressure is on
to fix solely upon
the safe, well-tried, such tempting
must be resisted
and anger reserved
not for those who inhabit this world
but against that denied us in it
(vast if unexplained)
the dark unknown.
