Poetry London Festiva Issue cover

To help the Southbank Centre celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Festival of Britain, we have been given permission to digitise the Festival Issue of Poetry London published in 1951.

This magazine is unconnected to the modern magazine called Poetry London magazine, which was founded in 1988. The Poetry London we reproduce here was founded in 1939 by Tamil poet and critic Tambimuttu, and ran until 1951. It is now regarded as one of the best poetry magazines of that period.

The Festival Issue, published in the summer of 1951, was edited by Richard March and Nicholas Moore.

Read more 1951 magazines in our special Festival of Britain section.

You can also read the current Poetry London magazine's editorial which compares and contrasts the Poetry Londons of then and now.
