About Brittle Star

Brittle Star is a “little” magazine which, for its size, contains a surprising variety of new work: poems, stories, interviews. What I especially like about it is that it enables ‘new’ writers to hear their own, and each other’s voices. The life of poetry depends ultimately upon the existence of such magazines, and the commitment and enthusiasm of their editors.’
                                                                          Jeremy Hooker

Brittle Star is a literary magazine publishing short stories and poetry. Whereas most ‘little’ magazines publish work from new writers alongside established ones, our focus is to give a platform to writers at the beginning of their careers.

As well as new poetry and fiction, each issue runs an interview with an established writer or a ‘close reading’ of a published work. Poets we’ve interviewed have included David Constantine, Jeremy Hooker, Mimi Khalvati, and Galway Kinnell, and there have been close readings on the work of Marilyn Hacker and Mark Doty among others.

The magazine prides itself on the quality of the work it publishes and we’ve been delighted by just how many of our writers have gone on to further success.
