“Its eclectic international editorial vision makes Poetry London one of the very few, essential poetry magazines in English”

Founded in 1988, Poetry London is a leading international poetry magazine where newer authors share pages with acclaimed contemporary poets. Book reviews are incisive, the features provocative. The magazine is published in spring, summer and autumn.

Recent issues have featured new poems by such distinguished contemporary poets as Alice Oswald, Sean O’Brien,  Ciaron Carson  and Pauline Stainer, and reviews of work by John Burnside and Mimi Khalvati. There are also reviews of first collections in each issue.

Poetry London issue 59 - front cover

Poetry London is a leading international magazine, where new poets share pages with acclaimed contemporary poets. We also publish a wide range of poetry in translation.

We aim to publish the best, most exciting poetry being written now, and are always interested in work by unpublished poets, as well as celebrated ones. Postal submissions are welcome and are all carefully read. Please send a maximum of six poems to the Poetry London office.

Always include a stamped addressed envelope for our reply, large enough and with adequate postage for the return of your poems as well, unless you have indicated in your cover letter that you do not need them returned. If sending from abroad, please enclose sufficient International Reply Coupons for reply and returns, again indicating if you require poems back. Submissions are read by myself and Martha Kapos, Assistant Poetry Editor.

We do not accept submissions by email.

The magazine is published in March, June and October. We receive a vast amount of submissions, so reading can take a month or two, and if your work is shortlisted, maybe even longer. You might find it helpful to read the magazine first, to see if your work is suitable. We appreciate subscriptions, as we depend on these to survive, though if you don't subscribe it won't affect your chances!
