Trapping the Memory
When thoughts come …
How to keep the flight of them,
cage them to rest –
behind the barred doors of a book? …
Places gone and travelled through
though spent must still exist –
even when memory lapses,
the idea never lost.
That being so, perhaps even things
we never knew or never had –
like unborn children –
may assume as much credibility
as meals consumed, torments endured,
music heard, journeys completed.
Words such as these are pumping round like blood.
Have been about, falling
a long time ago it seems
in spite of rain or snow,
now perhaps can best be captured by
the harbouring warm air.
