Blind the sun with your heels
Gouge out the eyes of people
For in the city of sleep
There’s no tomorrow nor yesterday
And sleep
You, sleepless and alone like pain,
Hang up your burden
On your rusty hook
And sleep
Outcast of repentance,
Skin the people
And feed them their flesh in the wood
Par in the city of sleep

And you will not see Abel through gouts of blood
Nor an old whore nor a virgin
So sleep
The great world behind the door
Has gone to sleep
Neither hours nor figures stay awake in its eyes
And the dogs have gone to sleep
And the night has gone to sleep
And the guards and the thieves have gone to sleep
So sleep
