from Nicht Wirklich Platonisch (1995)
Never now anywhere
On the bridge they’ll stay, detained,
each one in the other’s arms,
kissing, and their eyes, wide-open,
up into the moon they’ll stare.
Yes, they’ll have a father, mother,
have forgotten both.
Are so young and yet so heavy,
all their turning circular.
To the heavens and the street lamps
love and their escape they’ll swear.
But the lights, the streets stay silent,
nothing but the wind moves there.
From the bridge they will not stir,
not for parents but in vain,
only to themselves belonging
never now go anywhere.
