Intrusion
I heard a yellowhammer's bread-song
when pale blue merged with orange,
and sought its yellow.
It had flown from high in an old ash
and was black in dying light,
its melody dead.
Early stars came clear as the sun sank;
gamboge against the pale sky,
a canary sang.
