Taking the Plunge
"Don't leap before you look"
her wise friends said,
"those wine dark waters may be deep,
obscuring edges of each scarring rock".
"Come in" he called "the sea feels warm,
it glints in sunlight, translates dreams,
catches at breath, pulsates its power
and I will keep you safe from harm".
She looked. Were they such dangerous seas?
The wind, web light, wrapped limbs around.
He swam towards her, holding her heart's core
with all its shifting vagaries.
Their time was golden, lustrous in its flow.
They stayed inside each other's eye,
watching for changes in a lengthening day.
She leapt. He turned away and let her go.
