After They Had Parted.
(For Her)
And after they had parted
He sent red roses
Eighteen, red as blood
For years of life
And spillages included.
They did no good.
She only said,
When he ‘phoned,
She no longer loved him.
Tears lie on Nobby Bank
Half of it now carved away
The yellow gorse survives
In its cold clay.
