to get out at night

wished and the day after you forgot it
I would have to hide myself on trains because I’m speaking alone
and I run out of voice
I fear that if I raise my forefinger to say “Silence” it could look like a
cross sign

with the slanted cut of your disappointed look
you were saying “I’m tired of your phantoms”
scared to death that night on the highway
by the yellow light of the tollhouse
this is the electronic time in which everybody’s taping old restyled
songs and memories
I imagine you twenty years ago sleeping with the others in the
university, calling up your sister at three in the
morning to say “Hi, how’s it going on?”
