Like underwear, your shorts and shirts,
the negatives are clipped on the drying line,
beginning a new album of your life.
Tearing apart the twelve years ’83 – ’95,
as the scattered pages of an empty photobook . . .
Perhaps the apocalypse of your first love,
the death of a mother, and the endless
uprootings of yourself, old as Exodus,
in fact, the result of what you wrote by hand!
Not yours, the medieval history of your fate
when violent times turned you into a poet
in foreign lands! And those state-run societies
which force you to role-play . . . Like a 36-exposure film
half-finished in a camera, I’m taking your pictures,
my life, for my new album.
