Pataliputra
Brahman’s tears rolled down the rough,
rocky, barren slopes of the Himalayas.
The streams of cosmic consciousness burst forth
in life-giving Ganga, eternal, sacred.
Creation of love, devotion, passion,
gliding across the northern plains of India,
serene, commanding, gentle, motherly,
cradled Pataliputra, frontier town of Magadh.
Once blessed by Buddha, as a place of prosperous men,
hub of business, trades and merchandise.
When Buddha walked through Gautam gate to Ganga,
amidst crowds of lay-folks, fishermen, huts, rafts and boats;
he crossed the river barefoot, just as he transcended
Samsara of pomp and glory, delusions and dogmas.
A panorama: space, air, mist, water, sand.
A mere grain, opens its heart.
Pataliputra links my past, present, future.
Where I come from, who I am and
which way my destiny is beaconing?
