Tell me if the eucalyptus hardens
your bark if the stone still
listens to the wind if the sand keeps
our dwelling places in a burning memory
The waiting for waters mingles absence
and the return of mirages On the gullied banks
the years dry up like miserly fig trees
A friend of floodwaters weary of monotonous banks
tied in knots in the bed of bitter laurel trees
you shout to ungrateful valleys at the top of your voice
I carry your echoes away songs braving the thunderstorm
fire wedding in the wild skies
this palm grove born of my entrails
standing between my eyes and the sea
