June 2007
night winds and bold moths carry in the sound
of taxis grazing, chugging, slamming doors
and muffled laughter, softened in the heat
like a misplaced song made of chocolate.
the train, i think, is telling me something
i already know in its hard-fuzzed morse.
hours are smuggled past behind the telly,
off to a party in the long ago.
part of the present world has gone missing,
the days are stretched and thinned with linseed oil
painted quickly with a big flat housebrush,
a month that pauses and does not answer.
there's light on my tongue. it tastes of bleached blue
seagulls' cries, hung in a closed shop window.
