The Cow Poem
the black and white
splotches wobble
and shift themselves
into the shape
of a Friesian cow
it stands meditatively
in a field of printed clover
it has the large soulful
eyes of a lover
desperate to be believed
in the car yard
across the road
cars with glassy stares
wait and tempt
all facing the same
glossy direction
the club next door
offers $7.50 roasts
and bring your own
bottles of oblivion
all these promises
what is a cow to believe?
love me, it whispers
blind in the brightness
