A Right Mouthful
So easily done,
the clean slice of teeth on the soft flesh of my tongue.
Like an eager newborn thing, blind and probing
caught in the scythe of some creature’s jaws,
it never stood a chance.
The droplets stand out on the glistening surface
of my apple,
spreading into stars.
I bite a constellation, crimson against pale
to make a mark like Snow White’s first bleed,
leaving behind the trail of my appetite
like breadcrumbs dropped by children
to find their way home.
