The Walls
Without regard, without shame, without mercy,
tall, thick walls have ringed me round.
And here I am, apprenticed to despair,
dreaming only of a destiny that would consume my thought.
I had so much to do outside:
how was I not aware of these walls that were being constructed?
But no noise from the builders reached me, not a sound.
Very quietly, they have walled me out of the world.
