Second Light Poetry Competition 2008 SHORTLISTED
You tell me that inside this waterfall
there is one drop of water that flows uphill,
that out on some light-year-distant asteroid
a sufficiently powerful telescope trained on earth
would show us dinosaurs.
I wonder how far into space I’d have to go –
whether a rocket would be involved
or just a high-flying jet – before
my cutting-edge lenses could home in on you and me
on, say, July the 23rd last year
and whether, bodies being composed
97 or 98% of water,
there is some tiny molecule of you
still moving, with contrary force,
towards me.
