She Came Back Through The Rain
She came back through the rain to me one day
During that summer when I used to sit
In that shelter on the edge of the park.
I can’t remember what the reason was
But it must have been something important
For her to have let herself get soaked:
It may have been a message from you;-
She was always more your friend than mine.
She was nice though, she stayed for a smoke,
Told me she was going to see some band
That night at the Grouse with her friends from school,
Asked if we were going, I said we were
But I don’t think we did in the end.
She said she didn’t like the other hippies
The ones that sat at the shopping centre.
I agreed, I didn’t mean it
But I was trying to get of f with her.
I think you fancied her
But that didn’t stop me.
She said we’d have to go
For a coffee sometime.
I can’t remember if we did...
...But then I met her the other day,
On the boat to England.
You wouldn’t recognise her:
She’s lost the hippy look
And gained half a stone.
Suits her though; she always was a bit thin.
Said to say hi to you,
Which is what I’m doing.
Said we’ll have to meet up
In England sometime
- me and her that is.
Don’t know if we will.
