Death of an Old Woman
(in memory of Alice)
One day she was there,
the next day gone,
slumped iii an armchair,
smelling of dog
arid the food dogs leave behind
hardening in bowls.
She had a dachshund
painted on her front door
as if to say
this is a house where dogs live,
only animal lovers should come near.
When she died
her dogs were all put down.
She put that in her will
and it was done.
