A picture paints unspoken words
My mum swore at me only once,
her childhood accent escaping in rage,
‘Stop facking araand in that barthroom!’
Impatient as dominoes.
Running out the door to catch up
I glimpsed a photo on the passage wall.
A sepia cellar framing a group of youths
amongst tin bath tubs, acoustic guitars
and strange hats, somewhere between
the childhood need to play ignorant
and the adult need to censure.
Amongst them is my mum;
Surely, a swearing woman.
