12 three-line poems - haiku without the traditional syllable count? (‘Naiqu’ as Eamer O’Keeffe would call them), interspersed with pleasantly pastoral colour photos. Wisely, there is little obvious direct connection between words and images, though the latter are clearly intended as more than just background. The best of these poems achieve a penetrating clarity -
‘sudden, deep heavens / and holes in their distant lives / cloak a new chilling’ - 11.
Others are merely obscure
‘ slow point: best begin / within no shade, shut sheds, short / whispers of weekend’ - 2.
