The Quick Brown Dog at the Plaza Café
The raised haunches of this little dog
become indecent. With a muscled
waddle he goes, tight-sacked
testicles well-strapped, ears back
and stiff, tongue in and out at
his chops, steady but seeking
for scraps.
His thin rear legs like high
heels carry him under tables. His short
brown hair glistens along his back
to his stub of a tail. Did you cut
it off, Rodrigo, the night you got drunk
and had fun with a knife?
A flat silver bone hangs from his collar.
He settles his length on the stones, rises
at once, moves, settles, rises, looking
looking. In his life, there is a scheme.
