My Dance
The poet like a wandering Jew
like a metaphysical don Juan
is denied citizenship in Platonic republics
Friends and relations . . .
You’ve no customs left and no habits as yet
Better escape the tyranny of reviews
Literature
Bare life, misplaced pride
Mask
And Woman, the dance proposed by Nietzsche
who wanted to be teacher
Woman . . .
But what of irony?
Continuous come-and-go
Special roaming
All men, all countries
You know, that’s how you’re no longer a charge:
you just
disappear . . .
I am this genteel type crossing everunchanging Europes in fabulous
express trains and looking out of the window in dismay
You see I am no longer interested in the landscape
but the landscape’s dance, ah well, the dancescape,
Paritatitata
I guess it still
gives me a spinning thrill
