What are you doing, in secret, there, where sturdy understatement
props up what I would like to believe, the earnest trembling
of the darkened room, nightly testimony, my knee scraped by the
cerebellum?
Parallel lines run toward lizards in ice, roulette
spins under shark-like stars, on spindles and cords.
One-celled swimmers survive plagues by bending at the waist
in that balance where a single glorious flaw re-whorls the whole.
What are you doing, what are you doing there?
From its innocent paralysis, we feel your shadow stir our mouths,
the months of the calendar set far ahead of schedule,
lean and symmetrical as the pillars that used to shelter our musings.
