Naissence (5/6) 12p. paul smith. 14a clifton rd. winchester. final issue of this mag which is a pity since it at last seems to be getting into its stride. quite a reasonable read this one, names expected and also a few that are not. pat waited/ oxley/ jim morrison/ cobbing/ bantock/ paul brown/ tine morris/ farrell/ connors/ cashford/ zurbrugg/ horovitz/ booth/ bold/o pal nations/ & many others. pity to see it go - however a new mag is planned, to be edited by past waited, paul smith & duncan tweedale. enquiries to naissance address.
New Expression 15p. dave tremellen, crossing house, oddingley, nr droitwich, worcs. after all his troubles with vis viva, 365 and the rest, trernellen is getting down to it again producing a solid, well duplicated and if not exciting at least very readable mag. his taste is very destinctive & always accurate - no rubbish here
no 3 (after vis viva 2) nixon/ jaffin/ nicholas/ van braam/ andrea hopkins/ etc.
no 4 de wet/ strachan/ connors/ etc plus reviews, a much stronger issue than no 3.
Nineteen Attempts by lawrence upton. 8p. good elf publications. 18 clairview rd, london sw16. attempts they may be, although some of them do work. upton gets better in his old age. with the mimeo book comes Freesheet 1 a poemsheet by peter lawlor that i could have done without.
No Word - No Worry by kris hemensley. grosseteste review vol 4 no 1. 25p. 35 north st, fowey. the american idea this, a regular bound book acting also as an issue of a magazine for the sake of the subscribers. hemensley's prose pieces, of which this is a collection, are hard to live with. he does now and again push you over that edge into a place where he can slam you hard with ideas but not often enough for me. i found the style to close & tight for prose & too easy for poetry. i think perhaps hemensley makes it better as a poet.
Oasis (5) 18p. ian robinson. 12 stevenage rd, london sw6 6es.(incorporating expression magazine). a fine issue, far the best oasis to date. its a large, well printed & bound 74 page set of poetry & lots of prose, still little mag format but good. this issue includes: owen davis/ redgrove/ booth/ ritsos/ bullock/ grubb/ connors (inevitably)/ & a section of czech poets.
Omens (2) 10p. g.s.fraser. 10 toiler rd, leicester. a neat litho mag with an as yet rather dull content: bruce woodcock/ peter cash/ buchan/ jacobs/ brandeis/ morley/ & others.
One (1) 25p. david chaloner & barry dixon. 8 granville rd, cheadle hume, cheshire. a high price to pay for a 34 page mimeo but a high standard of work. i hope this mag makes it, it will be one to look to if it does. incl: john hall/ matthews/ paul evans/ hugh fox/ paul green/ etc.
Ooooopbopshebam (1) 10p. jeff cloves. 5 manor road, st albans herts. after the end of poets doos, cloves breaks out to follow his own bent-poetry&music. this mag, turned out very well on cloves' well used duolicator makes great reading: cloves on elvis/ cunliffe/ articles on rock to jazz & back again - the old days of teddyboys & flick knives/ reminiscence of jet harris etc.
The Opal Land of the Angels by opal I. nations. strange faeces press. 42a Pembridge road, london w11. a lot better than his last book in a similar style, the opal americana. this one is 10 thumbnail sketches of english life, put in the inimitable nations way. not as good as hummi or stanley & tie-tars but still readable & well worth getting hold of. foolscap mimeo.
The Orlando Poems by george macbeth. £2.60 hardback. macmillan. orlando is a mythical character invented by macbeth & the poems describe his dadaistic adventures. orlando's hilarious doings have make macbeth famous and sought after for readings, helping him into the much higher paid pop-poet audience puller.bracket. i'd laughed with the rest of them, finding orlando a complete entertainment at a reading. however they fall flat flat flat in book form. one or two inserted into his collected poems might have been justified but the lot in one book ended up by boring me, they become formless & cease to be funny very early on. the style somewhat reminds me of opal nations' Stanley & tie-tars but not as clever, on the printed page at least. no, these are live out loud poems & not for a book. macbeth is better than this as his collected poems well show.
Ostrich (3) 5p. keith armstrong. IRD arts club, fossway, newcastle on tyne ne6 2yd. no, not the keith armstrong of informer & telephone calls fame but a different man. a loose mimeo, not much depth. incl: sneyd/ barry cole/ john white & others locals.
Outsider run by frank edwards at 225 croydon rd, caterham, surrey regrets the non-appearance of its issue 4. the terrible happened when the whole mss for the issue got itself lost in the mail.
nonetheless frank edwards has not given it all up but is going ahead with issue 5. support needed.
Oz 20p. 52 princedale rd., london w11. good to see the best u/g mag around still around. recent issues include "the day the earth was out to lunch" & "thrilling murder comics"
A Particular Yellow Smell by roger williams-8p. stingprint, 3 collingwood court, folkestone. a tough title for a great book. basically these are almost-sound-poems, sometimes the sounds of the words lead, sometimes the words' semantic values, sometimes both. there is lewis carroll here, there is also dada but mainly its williams' own wit and control of composition that brings the material through. fully recommended.
Passages from Time by william oxley. 30p. ember press. 128 ember lane esher, surrey. nothing too wild in this one, but plenty solid enough. oxley is more of a traditionalist than anything else and he does it well. the book is illustrated on everypage. sometimes effective, often not. production is good. poems searching after a missing beauty.
Peacock (2) j brooks. the bookshop, 153 woodhouse lane, leads 2. 6 page rough free mimeo hand out of poetry & prose. nothing too much going on here yet, but it is free.
Penny Poems (1) tp. nigel jenkins. trouser press, 11 beauchamp hill, leamington. a great idea this, 8 page mimeo mag, small & coming out often, street sold for a penny. no better way to get poetry to a wider audience. edgar broughton/ oram/ mallorie/ rhodes/ gates/ etc.
Pilgrims and Petitions by martin booth. 15p. aquila, 18 atherstone close, shirley, solihull. aquila, alias jim green of the Wham poetry centre's first publication. and it does martin booth the justice he deserves. 1972 is booth year. if you cant afford his excellent hard back @ £1.50, this smaller book wont kill you. a fine selection and a good introduction to his work, and indication perhaps of the greater things to come.
The Place by harry guest. 35p. sceptre press. 15 keats way, rushden, northants. a limited edition sceptre book thats worth its asking price on the open market - a long guest poem taken from a series called "the august notebooks', seemingly autobiographical,
full of guest's rich imagery & solid language. a delight to read. a second aeon must, this one.
Platform (1) 10p. andrew cozens. avalon, london rd, stockbridge, hamps. mainly a local mag at the moment and suffering from the usual faults in such a mag. the editor tells me he is looking for contributions from further afield in an attempt to hold up the local poets in a more general mag. included here is a review section, a letter section and a bunch of average to rough poetry from
robinson/ rhodes/ coram/ heath/ etc.
Platform 10p. dean siva & teresa gleadowe. 3 cobden chambers, pelham st, nottingham. a glossy monthly arts mag for the midlands - covering news, reviews etc plus a pull out whats-on poster. really good value for the money.
no 2 galleries/ poems by John lucas/ jeff nuttall's "art a definition"/ jazz/ paul waplington's drawings.
no 3 the crucible/ kinetics/ poems by robert shave/ the sceme/
films/ books/ records/ eating out.
no 4 john mcenery in rep./ poems by ernest frost/ bill gaskins' "transcendental woman" photos.
no 5 childrens writers/ opera/ a feature on the work of the
tarasque group, concrete & post
concrete poetry: cutts, bann, finlay, gardner, mills/ films/ books/
etc.
no 6 local radio/ conceptual art/ opera/ poetry by rosalind brackenbury/ brass bands/ etc.
PM newsletter bb bks. 1 spring bank, salesbury, blackburn. notes on the alternative press etc.
Poems by neil mcneil. 22 runroch close, bletcheley, yorks. large bound mimeo set of poems dealing with the very large things, sometimes working most times not.
Poems of Summer by john sivyer. r.w. kember entertainment service. 49 grosvenor rd, watford. tidy mimeo set of easy-listening poems. the simple ones for street selling is the theory i think. okay, but it isnt poetry.
Poetry Information (5) peter hodgkiss. BCM/oracle, london wc1. subs 50p. the best of the growing number of mags dealing with reviews & news alone. it deals mostly in depth, and its comments are always pertinent. its faults lie in the fact that it doesnt cover enough, so send review copies here. it also needs more subs in order to go on and since its a very useful venture i hope a lot of people do subscribe.
Poetry Introduction 2 95p paper & £195 cloth. faber & faber. 3 queen sq, london wct. a well printed & bound magazine this one could be called. its a collection of 9 new poets not seen in large book form yet, only three of whom i'd heard of before. however i wish to see more of the others now i've read the book. these are not london poets but come mainly from ireland, scotland and other off centre places and somehow their voices are different because of this - i was very impressed with the work of paul muldoon & william peskett, both from ireland & both very young. there are large poets in the making here. pete morgan ex-scotland has a few poems i'd read before which stand up very well on a second time round, taking all sorts of risks for a "movement poet", was magee is solid, sometimes magnificent, gravel lindop talks too much about being a poet. others include dick davis/ alasdair maclean/ richard ryan & clive wilmer. the book as a whole serves its title, it is an introduction & to some good poets.
Poetry of the Circle in the Square (12) 5p. bill pickard, bristol arts centre, king sq, bristol 2. a small mimeo of members poetry. previous issues have always fallen into the trap of promoting members' egos rather than poetry but this issue is something different. a fine selection of poetry altogether. lewis-smith/ magee/ telling/ ball/ connors/ grubb/ lloyd/ barnfield/ adams/ webb/etc.
Poetry News 7/2p. jcr green. 18 atherstone close, shirley, solihull. a national reviews & news mag put out by birmingham poetry centre-its a little rough in format and has huge layout problems still but does seem to be getting a bit better in that respect. again its faults, like that of poetry information lie in its coverage - not wide enough & spending too much space on some of the lesser publications of the small press scene.
no 4 mag reviews/ the welsh scene/ poets conference report/ selected books/ booklets etc.
no 5 recent xperimentings/ workshop malt benefit report/ vanity presses/ selected books/ etc.
Poetry Review 40p. eric mottram. poetry society. 21 earls court sq, london sw5. for a long time this magazine was one of the best printed dull malts in the uk, due mainly to pressures from the traditionalist/careful elements among the poetry society management. these pressures still exist but the appointement of eric mottram as new editor has changed everything. i guess mottram must be a strong man. this magazine is distinctively the best in the uk, its expensive for sure but worth it. over 100 printed pages to each issue covering the moderns that matter. another second aeon must, in fact if you are reading second aeon you ought to read PR also.
vol 62 no 3 dsh cover/ harwood/ mcclure/ nuttall/ rbt duncan/ fisher/ butler/ turnbull/ montgomery/ &c.
vol 61 no 4 really an ultimate issue in content this one: cobbing/ john ashbery/ jp ward/ harry guest/ jonathan williams/ tom pickard/ snyder/ &c. its good to see visual and straight side by side.
Priapus (22) john cotton. 37 lombardy drive, berkhamsted. final issue of a long lived malt, the priapus press to publish books alone now. its a pity. priapus was in its own way unique, a mimeo malt basically but inserts of full colour lithographs, printed pages & drawings livened the whole thing up to make it a good equal to many a printed malt. the content was safe but never dull. the final issue makes good reading: bedford/ kleiner/ birney/ d.m. thomas/ golightly/ jay/ mole/ simpson/ burns & others, a beautiful 5 colour cover by rigby graham, & more.
Poetry Workshop (autumn 71) steve morris. faculty of art & design, the polytechnic, wolverhampton. clinical in its white & black neatness. uneven. locals & against the biggies: hidden/ frances horovitz/ henri/ mike horovitz/ jon hall/ peter mayer/ ian fogden/ etc.
A Prayer, Against Revenge by george macbeth. 35p. sceptre press, 15 keats way, rushden. a hollograph short short poem (half a page) in macbeths very hard to read hand. collectors only.
publications and works by hansjorg rnayer £1.80. edition hansjorg mayer, 61 b aberdere gdns, london nw6. a fat multicolour 200 page book published as part of an exhibition at the haags gemeente-museum in 1968. as with all good catalogues it works just as well, in fact better, as a book in its own right. the book deals with the concrete, typographical and avante guard work of german artist and publisher hansjorg mayer - this means covering the full range of modern experimental poetry since mayer's had a hand in the publishing of examples of most of it. it also means a large section of the most interesting modern typographical experiments since mayer himself has made them. the book opens with a survey of mayers work by hens locher followed by what turns out to be an excellent anthology of concreteism: bremer/ emmett williams/ campos/ cobbing/ rot/ filliou/ mon/ finlay/ gomringer/ dsh/ vries/ garnier/ jandle/ xisto/ dohl/ brecht/ & countless others. all published & typeset in the many many edition hansjorg mayer. the book breathlessly & heavily ends with a long survey of the various mayer typographical works created as his own contribution to the concrete movement. a great book serving as both a sampler of mayers vast catalogue & a concrete anthology in itself.
The Quarterly Fantasy Fanzine Directory (thats the sort of magazine that goes gladly under the horrible title of a "zine") is being compiled by stingprint, 3 collingwood court, folkestone under the steady hand of ray denton. entries are free but no doubt you'll have to buy the magazine.
Satori con moore. 6 balmoral rd, bristol bs7 9az. small tidy litho print malt for the unknowns.
no 2 10p. tong curt is/ richard austin/ peter hull / sciIla berry/ a Ian brang/ &c. didnt really excite.
no 2 1/2 15p. poetry from younger writers. ages 8 - 17.
Screen-teen by opal I nations. 25p. strange faeces press, 42a pembridge rd, london w11. this is for certain the year for opal I nations books - he stands a good chance of flooding the market too. this one is "a collection of poems & other works 1970-1972" - nation's amazing surrealistic humour comes thru again and again, sometimes dark sometimes slapstick. i feel that perhaps he's better with prose, his poetry stumbles and sounds like cut down prose too often. but then again if you decide that its just a book, and read it as such you'll be okay. recomended reading, an almost second aeon award, be sure to read stanley & tie tars first.
Scrip (39) 15p. david holliday. 67 hady cres, chesterfield, derbys. an old mimeo staggering onwards, still managing to kick up the odd spark but not often. incl: cash/ sneyd/ connors/ mcmanus/ jaffin/ steane/ elsberg/ carr/ lewis-smith/ stanley thomas & reviews etc.
no 40 scrips 10 year old issue. looking much like normal. jackson/ birney/ rice/ cook/ etc.
Scriptures by neil mills. 20p. writers forum folder no 10. 262 randolf ave, london w9. "the magic of the written sign" - similar the charles verey's hand drawn shapes in style i think although these look more magical. the connection with language here is inside mill's head - the result is a series of highly visual cards, pleasing to the eye.
Sear 8p. alex lowry. 58 liverpool st, reddish, stockport. the mimeo magazine of mensa, the top brain bods. twists you around a bit trying to follow a lot of the things in here, mainly lighthearted and some very funny indeed.
no 44 deirdre farrell poem/ alex lowry's fan club/ the lifeline trust/ & other crazy things
no 45 personality tests/ superbrain/ posers, problems & quotes/ smells/ etc etc.
Seattle everybody died by bill butler. aloes books. 60 garfield rd, london sw11 . a typical long butler epic mixing roethke & bill c. 30p worth of black mountain shoved into the 1970's.
Skylight (2) 30p. peter baker. top flat, 5 fog lane, manchester 20. i had the feeling that this mag would go places when its first issue showed. no 2 zooms up to the new forefront of uk small mags. its all solid stuff but its mainly the same people that are appearing in all the other good new mags, what i can only guess to be the new "in-scene" of english poetry. dont be put off however, its a worthy in scene: crozier/ torrance/ john james/ hall/ Hoida/ freeman/ Peter riley/ longville/ john riley/ hemensley/ downing/ burns/ cunliffe/ connors(why not?)etc.
Sesheta (1 ) richard downing & andi wachtel. 30 effingham close, sutton, surrey. sub rates quoted at E11.50 for 3 although no individual copy price is given. 94 neat pages. the appearance of sesheta confirms my belief that the age of dull dull little mags is coming to an end. there are so many solid good newies about these days that the dull ones are going to have to change or die. sesheta shows itself as one of the best of the new ones. its style is distinctive,
an expanded version of what you might call the cambridge poets - the ones that always turn up in the same mags together -earthship, grosseteste etc. and well worth reading too. john hall/ crozier/ torrance/ chaloner/ malanga/ peter riley/ harwood/ schjeldahl/ hemensley/ wisker/ larry fagin/ waldman/ val torrance/ etc etc. try it.
Suzanne (4) 5p. j. harrison. 28 oxehampton rd, exeter. a collection of lesser-knowns without anything solid to hold them up. barrett/ darlington/ moger/ nott/ dixon/ etc.
Stanley and Tie-Tars by opal I. nations. £1. covent garden books. 80 long acre, london wc2. the ultimate in surreal istic/ dadaistic novels. second aeon best book of the year award. its very expensive at £1 for some 50 odd printed pages but worth it for whets inside. the book is split into cantos, each having no more than nominal connection with the ones that go before it, the characters of stanley & tie-tars mix themselves up and remain the only constant thing throughout the book. opal I nations, the author also appears, mainly as author. some beautiful pieces of dada, extreme experimentings with the art of the novel and all of it the funniest thing around since donleavey's ginger man. a large lump of stanley appeared in second aeon 14 for those that refuse to believe me and have to see for themselves. buy it.
Starving Sparrow Temple Anthology edited by bill wyatt. serum house buddhist community, 3 plough lane, perley, surrey. "haiku, tanks, linked verse & other pieces". one of the best collections of this kind around -there is something very clear and very deep about haiku & related work, something to make you forget the dirt around you. incl: bill wyatt/ dal dettmar/ basho in translation/ d.a.levy/ john williams/ stephen parr/ downing/ val torrance/ chris torrance/ &c.
Stillborn a new arts/ poetry mag due soon from stew brown, 39 exeter rd, forest fields, nottingham. to be 65 pages, mimeo, A5 and to sell at 7 1/2p.
Straight (6) 10p. john townson. 48 causeway side, linthwaite, huddersfield. a large u/g mimeo better in this issue than before. incl: prisons & prisoners/ stave sneyd/ short stories/ music/ &c.
Strange Faeces 25p. opal I nations. 42a pembridge rd, london w11. large foolscap mimeo poetry prose experimentings. issues coming out thick and fast. its a good solid mag this, well worth subscribing to, buying and even reading.
no 6 "larry fagin issue" a whole mag of material written by fagin in collaboration with such people as ron pagett/ bill berkson/ brownstein/ tom clerk/ coolidge/ etc. the result is sometimes
amazing, nearly always good but sometimes trite.
no 7 more of a general whets going on issue this one, some mighty fine reading: chaloner/ paul buck/ allen fisher/ david mayor/ kupferberg/ jacowska/ eigner/ veitch/ malanga/ etc etc etc.
Stud/Onex 10p. tga, 176 peckham rye, london se22. two long and rather pointless joint poems stud itself is by paul brown & peter nijmeijer, onyx is the result of a collaboration between brown/ bacon/ berbardes/ cooper/ farrell/ finch/ galvin/ gillespie/ kinman & palmer. its an object not a book.
Sullivan's Saga City by ann mcgrath. 15p. aquila publishing. 18 atherstone close, shirley, solihull. a neat book from a new press - not really city poems, some strength but not often.
The Survivors by bryn griffiths. £1.25 cloth. dent, aldine hse, bedford st, london..a series of poems by a welshman abroad in australia. bryn griffiths has been accused of prefessional welshmanism (if there is such a thing), he's not quite that but in this set he does overdo the fatherland memories a bit. he is best in his love poems that have little to do with nation & creed personal griffiths, flowing, chanting - here his images are strong, his poetry living up to its name. in fact the book would have been better set out as a book of lyrical love poems rather than drag that subcontinent into it. my main complaint with this book is the price, the poems
are jammed together in small type in order to squash a 40 page book into 20, and at £1.25 for that few pages someone is making a pile, and i know its not bryn griffiths.
Sweet Pea by ron padgett. 30p. aloes books, 60 garfield rd, london sw11. a tiny neat book very well illustrated by bits of maps. but there the goodness ends. the poem i could well do without, a very pop approach to a love poem too many flowers and its done better by adrian henri.
Tantric poems perhaps... by dsh. writers forum folder no 2. 25p. 262 randolf eve, london w9. an oldie this, re-issued again. sylvester's typewriter genius in a slightly restrained mood, patterns, shapes, the visual typewriter poet. but the argument will always surround sylvester that these "things" cannot be poetry, they contain no letters, just signs, lines and the like. whatever they are, i like them, and refuse to believe that dsh is mad.
Three early pieces by roy fisher. 15p. tga, 176 peckham rye, london se22. rather expensive for two old poems (1953) and one prosepoem piece but neat nonetheless. however i do wish they were three later pieces by roy fisher, their oldness is musty.
3 sections by philip holmes. £1.60 hardback. anvil press, 69 king george st, london se 10. a 70 page tight letterpress book, well designed but with a bad dustjacket. the book as its title suggests splits into three sections: a miscellany of short poems first where holmes really shows what he can do, an almost metaphysical use of image, strong & well controlled, never shouting but always hitting the right spots; "carpet of memory" reads like a notebook, odd thoughts, back-flashes into time, untidy images, a weak middle; "marrick" the last section is of recent poems, more earthy than the first section but just as good, holmes is worth re-reading. a book to buy.
Tomorrow (vol 2 no 1) 25p. alan evison. st edmund hall, oxford. a poetry/ prose/ arts mag, lush printing but not all that high in standard. miles gibson/ sally patch/ chris naylor/ &c.
trailer by tom phillips. £1.80 edition hansjorg mayer. 61 b aberdare gdns, london nw6. for a long time now, since 1966 in fact, tom phillips main body of work has been a humument - featured in magazines, exhibitions, limited editions etc (see last issue of second aeon for example). a humument is an adapted novel, a re-working of one text into something else by obliteration, and very fine obligeration too, phillips being a brilliant graphic artist. a humument is still in progress, only the first volume of it has appeared in a fine-art limited edition. trailer is one of its offshoots. phillips it seems never throws anything away -all the clippings etc from the work on a humument itself he has kept, re-worked again to provide us with trailer. the book does have the effect of a film trailer, showing us highlights from the novel itself but it also works in its own right. it is in black & white (a humument is in full colour) and i found it, along with the rest of phillips work, one of the best things in the uk concrete movement. a point raised however is that although its fine in itself, can phillips go on for another 5 years turning out work all based on the same basic idea?
Transatlantic Review (41) 25p. j.f. mccrindle. 33 ennismore gardens, london sw7. the only mag in the uk to offer better value, size wise, than second aeon. an amazing 180 printed pages, glossy bound. certainly the best value anyone's ever going to get. TR is a magazine of prose works, seperated by tight hard poems. its well worth reading, solid, but hardly adventurous. this issue contains fiction from goyen/ maggie ross/ thomas a west/ mike bygrave/ kit reed/ joy williams/ philip damon/ & numerous others, poetry from redgrove/ ken smith/ glyn hughes/ ormond/ bryn griffiths/ philip oakes/ etc, a poetry feature on four black poets/ and two interviews with ionesco and alan sillitoe.
Trans Gravity Advertizer paul brown, 176 peckham rye, london se22. a monthly sheet to replace the sadly defunct gaga. the idea is to sell one side of the sheet as advertizment & use the other for poetry/ visuals. so far there have been no takers for the adverts so its all poetry/ visuals. its sent out free to anyone who provides sae.
no 1 plastic inflateable woman photo plus poetry by edward dunmow
no 2 collage & poem by opal I nations plus news & notes
no 3/4 hans clavin visual/gillian jones poem/news of tga projects.
Transgress (1) bob geer. wolverhampton polytechnic. a bit bare this mag without a cover, mostly student work but with one or two worthy items: steve morris/ terry quinn/ etc.
Turpin (1) 5p. martin thom & jeremy helm. magdalene college, cambridge. a great new little mag this one, comes in the form of a folded up poster with some solid illustrations by paul smith & judith harris. the poetry is all good: horovitz/ hoida/ sneyd/ matt hews/ cendrars(tran by hoida) etc. the editors are looking for people to edit different issues for them, those with ideas please contact.
Twenty For You by alistair wisker. outposts. 40p. available from 11 grafton rd, worcester park, surrey. wisker has come a long way since the days when he edited flame. in these 20 poems he uses images & words like a good blues guitarist - sparse, telling, and well controlled. it really works. love poems with a new slant, style & strength.
The Unmade World by donald gardner. a long prose philosophical poem, available for what ever you want to give from london bookshops, try compendium, 240 camden high st, nw1.
The Village Review (1) 25p. quenten lane. lapboards, newport, essex. a new neat one, a mixture of locals and the little mag regulars. as yet its ordinary but could grow a bit. including: connors/ cashford/ england/ rice/ jaffin/ henderson-smith/ oxIey/ pearce/ cayley/etc.
Wilful Stranger (1) guest editor charles turnbull. 4p. brian williams, 42 highland rd, amersham. for the price a large mimeo. with concrete poetry section edited with an introduction by peter finch: carr/ tyron/ sneyd/ vidler/ cobbing/ dsh/ sharkey/ jenkins/ parfitt/ zurbrugg/ &c.
Workshop (14) 25p. guest editor michael johnson. norman hidden, 2 culham court, granville rd, london n4. 36 tight well printed pages. workshop generally covers the poetry scene well, here however its taking a few chances by publishing mainly unknowns, it works out well, although not perhaps as well as some of the earlier issues. incl: henri/ pudney/ sinclair/ jaffin/ hacker/ gregory/ warrington/ massey/ frank davies/ m.m.turner/ & others.
