Theme park
She said of her first visit to the cinema,
‘Anastasia came on like a video.’
That’s something we rarely do:
Define something old by something new.
In the peacock park, we saw
Avian Venetian masques,
William Morris in peacock’s tails
And spokes of an inverted umbrella
In one male’s curvature of display.
What braggadocio. How can such a creature walk?
When I first saw you, at Exeter St. David’s,
I thought you looked like a white peacock.
That’s something we no longer do,
Lay ambush with a simile.
We’d both been in previous marriages,
Now we have a mutual past,
Our anniversary map is somewhere
Between crystal and china.
How can we define what’s gone by what is new?
Crush so much history in the here and now?
