Chartres Cathedral
I didn’t expect
that reaction
when we stepped in,
took a few paces,
turned slowly,
necks craned,
seeing so much
medieval colour,
stilled visions
caught in silica,
everywhere
curtains of it,
the staggering scale
of the rich dance
hanging high among
soaring stone.
Didn’t expect
that reaction
until I caught
a slight sound,
turned,
saw your eyes brimming.
