Spacewalk
She could be a rocket engineer
The way she moves about the kitchen
Tuning and steering it,
Slowing to a halt
Then speeding up
Between the table and the sink
Busy, balanced,
Always within
Easy reach of everything.
She says would you ever
Run down to the shop
For a bottle of milk
Like a good boy.
The money’s on the table. Oh
And get a box of matches while you’re there.
I don’t like to go,
Or even to think of starting to leave her.
Perhaps I know about strange momentums in space
That spin you
- When it’s most important that you stay -
Slowly and irreversibly away.
