For me, for you
You are, of course, still here -
a fact about the dead
that others rarely realise.
I talk to you quite freely
and you reply in that laconic way
you always did.
You dress in darkish blue -
or is it green? Something
between the two:
immaculate as ever:
tweeds. You never wished to seem
a townie, but country bred.
I met your friend and said:
‘Val is still here - around’.
Amazed, he clutched my hand.
‘Is it true? Is it true?’
And I replied: ‘Of course it’s true -
for me, for you’.
