How about a trip to hell this season?
You can package and peddle that
You can sell Death Valley
There’s something out there that speaks to us
The dragon beneath the gates
Camouflaged in whispers of cloudless skies
Brushing an horizon
Immeasurably distant and vast
Tread lightly on its spine
You may suck water from its stones
But beneath that rock
A serpent dwells
While the buzzard hovers low
Waiting to caress a fresh nocturnal skull
It soared to 134 degrees
The year before the Great War
The desert was a wonder and a weapon then
A land of gold, silver, copper
Charcoal and talc
Where clay moguls sold their soul
For a ton of ice in Rhyolite
And men mined borax for a buck fifty a day.
