Forsythia
Each year I fear it won't return,
that sudden yellow shout of greeting
followed by serrated gentle green.
(They cut it back so hard last year
I feared they'd killed it. Being no
gardener I had to take their word).
But here it comes again, triumphant,
that foaming splurge of colour, light and grace.
"We're here!" the leaves say. "Never doubt us,
when one of us falls, life will with life replace".
