Cuillins of Skye
Before rain, skies glower in the green
ghost-breath of shadow
darkened rocks frown, mask the faces
of casual sheep
scruffling the purples of heather.
Go softly. Drink the silence
of these highland hills
know the wilderness and its tribes:
eagle, otter
and the blue mantles of mystery.
After rain, hushed echoes, quiet beat
on granite;
white witches stretch white fingers –
spin shawls of soft cloud
drifting down from The Man of Storr.
Go softly. Catch the songs
from the deep of earth,
close in on the stitching of landscape
where sky and sea rub together
and seals watch from cradles of rock.
