Healing
I could almost feel them closing,
the jagged lips of the wounds
that festered inside;
what remained after's still ugly,
but then, you have your scars too.
Safe in my new trust of you,
I slept through cold lengths of darkness
but lay awake in the thin light
of morning, burning with unwritten poems.
She wept for joy - I had always thought the phrase
Victorian, what you might expect to find in
old novels - the cheesy kind.
Yet there it was, very clearly
moistening my unwary cheek,
under my own forefinger.
You rushed through my heart like blood.
And your sleeping face can still
swell a room with glorious first lines.
