Spring
She has painted her luscious deprived
mouth a shade of iridescence: butterfly’s wing,
and looks out of the window.
Spring has sprayed the garden with topaz – shocked,
each grass blade
stands charged. The sun is riveted behind a whale-shaped
cloud.
On the line her sister’s chlorophyll-green dress does a
little dance
swirling its own hem, wet and lithe.
Breakfast: she arranges and rearranges
the delectable still-life. Not one crumb must pass her lips.
Buttercrust croissants
Farinaceous rolls like angel pillows
Apricot jam
A silver spoon, catching the light, skinny dips in the honey.
She sips black coffee from a white china cup.
Thin! she yells to the birds. Thin.
A hidden pigeon coos maternally. A frog plops into the pond,
makes hoops of ripple.
Here comes her sister. She is floating across the lawn.
The grass blades stay upright.
