The Three Rings
I hadn’t opened the box
in a long while,
and there you were
winking up at me,
nestling in the trio
of blood red gashes.
Time to remove you
from your velvety open wounds.
The solitaire, still engaging
in its platinum twist,
teasing on a distant beach,
using sun scorched pebbles
to chalk my scribbled answer.
I can’t recall you
ever finding it,
but you knew anyway.
The golden, pitted band,
now wearing thin
and strangely cold
as the distant church,
with its unfamiliar rituals
and unforgiving denials.
Yet you were my missing music,
my absent blooms, my song.
Diamonds circle in their
eternal setting,
delicately reflecting a waiting time,
a seemingly endless wash of
water coloured days.
Now, as then, their faces
still reflecting yours.
How can I not be overjoyed?
