Suicide
You enter the sea fully-clothed
and the cold of it freezes your legs,
gives you a headache.
No matter how she chose to leave you -
spinning on her heel or weeping
at the door whose handle she’s
never had such difficulty turning -
the fact of it is bigger
than who is to blame.
Somehow, though, you know for certain
she won’t be coming back,
any more than that you will walk out
further, catching sight of what
a pair of shoes looks like
under water for the very first time.
