Story
Sometimes a story comes in
It usually happens in the morning
when the brain's been asleep
curled up in its fur.
The brain stretches its muscles
and the story comes in at the back door,
throws its coat on the table
like a night-shift worker coming in from work.
It wants to rest
and a story is a kind of rest.
You never know what will happen
as it puts its feet up
and ruffles your hair
while you cook breakfast.
