Punta Carretas at dusk
Your streets want me tonight.
The sea walks out of itself
and up your gentle slopes
to touch you
(golden stars on its dark hair)
and my childhood hangs suspended
from a tree's light poised hand.
Your quiet streets want me tonight,
lay open the small treasures
of magic garden and door
and voices drift out of windows
that ride high on the night air.
I guess I shall close the lights
behind me, and go to you
for a walk under the fragrant
dome of your summer cathedral
for under cover of blue
all manner of things may be spoken.
Not strange. We've known each other forever.
