I had forgotten rain
Waking to overheard conspiracy
Among the ivy leaves. Nothing malevolent
Just the excited whispering of children –
Shush, shush, hee-hee - Oh, wait till she see this...
Gastropods swollen and alive with juice,
Purposeful, moving in time-lapse gallops
As my attention flickers.
The sense of something there, a dripping shadow
Which disappears as soon as I address it
With the first word that comes into my mouth;
Sorry, I tell it. Sorry, sorry, sorry –
I was elsewhere and did not realise
I had forgotten rain.
