Amortamoton
from Mata Hari And The Music Box
like a poem can become a simulacrum (like an engine apes the body)
I will become a music box maker to make a music box to give her
like a Hindu Fabergé, a container for my desires, an amortomaton,
no madder than Rilke with his angel fixation,
enough intangible words I will dovetail the sides
like an A B A B rhyme, Mata placed, carved, rising
corkscrew to the music of cogs, lever and gut,
and I will inscribe it to her real name, if
only I knew it, they say she's involved in a dangerous conflation of
the stage and the everyday, no punctuation, like the rambling thoughts
of chisel and saw, the one last thing before I can have this delivered
a catch
