Corn Dance
Broad-ribbed like their native mountains
Staunchly based on well-thewed limbs
Linked from waist to waist they form
A brown and rhythmed centipede,
Encompassing the floor with wide indentations.
Beneath their savage feet the corn
Lies crushed, gold flesh grieving,
And the startled air is torn
By the brazen cries of ecstatic lips
That do not articulate, have no meaning
Without interpretation by fertile hips.
