turning the corner of a wood,
where he has seen the smoke
curling and smelt the food,
sees below him by the hedges
of a wide field, a breeze
skimming over the edges
of a sea of shining grass,
lines of armoured men,
long swords sheathed,
lances lowered to the ground,
their horses untethered,
but reined in, a bright standard,
erect and visible, leaning forward?
