We Tried To Let Go Hands
From freezes, floods, and frozen fogs,
we all went underground in 2029.
Like Jazza and I, my friend Jazza, hand in hand.
Everywhere, though, everywhere the sound:
God! God! I want to see! I want to feel again!
We’ve walked forever in this thing:
the Fuckbunker? the new order? just a hole? mine?
We hate being blind, we said, we hate being blind!
We wondered: Is the world all cave? We came to
—fglglglgluck! Face-deep! No! Some of it’s spring!
And, drowning, no man cared for my soul,
I thought, nor I for his.
We still can’t see, and we still can’t feel,
and we didn’t believe. What’s to discuss?

and I kept pulling up, O glory be, it was like a kiss—
please, please, God, deal bountifully with us!
