Godfrey Ackers was born in 1926 in London. He worked as an engineer in developing countries for many years. He lives in Plymouth.
Gillian Allnutt has published seven collections. The most recent collection is How the Bicycle Shone: New and Selected Poems (Bloodaxe, 2007).
Judy Brown’s pamphlet Pillars of Salt was published by Templar in 2006. She received the Hamish Canham Poetry Prize in 2005.
Susan Burns is studying for an MA in Creative Writing at Sheffield Hallam University. She is joint creative director of Chol Theatre in Huddersfield.
Rhian Edwards’s pamphlet Parade the Fib (Talllighthouse) is the PBS Choice for the Autumn. She is also a songwriter and performance poet.
Philip Gross’s latest collection is The Egg of Zero (Bloodaxe, 2006). The poems in this issue are from a collaboration with photographer Simon Denison, I Spy Pinhole Eye, due from Cinnamon Press in 2009.
Patricia Hann was born in Ilford in 1924. She taught English until retirement and lives in London.
AF Harrold’s poetry collections are Logic and the Heart (Two Rivers Press, 2004) and Of Birds and Bees (Quirkstandard’s Alternative, 2008). He works as a performance poet and comedian.
Emma Jones was born in 1977 in Sydney, Australia. Her first collection, The Striped World, will be published by Faber in February.
Stephen Knight’s books include Flowering Limbs (Bloodaxe, 1993) and Dream City Cinema (Bloodaxe, 1996). He won the National Poetry Competition in 1992. He has published a novel, Mr Schnitzel (Viking, 2000).
Carola Luther was born in 1959 in South Africa and moved to England in 1981. Her first collection is Walking the Animals (Carcanet, 2004).
Fabio Morabíto was born in 1955 in Alexandria, Egypt, of Italian parents. He has lived in Mexico City since 1969. The poems in this issue are from Lotes balíos (1984).
Helen Mort’s pamphlet The Shape of Every Box was published in 2005 by Tall-lighthouse. She received a Gregory Award in 2007.
Andrew Motion’s next collection, The Cinder Path, will be published by Faber in 2009. ‘Coming in to Land’ in this issue takes much of its material from James Farrar’s The Unreturning Spring (Chatto, 1968).
Les Murray is Australia’s leading poet. Among his several distinguished collections are The Daylight Moon (1987) and Translations from the Natural World (1992). He received the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry in 1999. Collected Poems (1998) is published by Carcanet.
Daljit Nagra’s first collection, Look We Have Coming to Dover! (Faber), won the 2007 Forward Prize for Best First Collection. Oh My Rub (Smith/Doorstop, 2003) was a PBS Pamphlet Choice.
Sam Riviere was born in 1981. He co-edits the anthology series Stop Sharpening Your Knives. His work appeared previously in Poetry London 57.
Julian Turner’s collections are Crossing the Outskirts (Anvil, 2002), a PBS Recommendation, and Orphan Sites (Anvil, 2006).
Jack Underwood was born in 1984 in Norwich. He co-edits the anthology series Stop Sharpening Your Knives. He received a Gregory Award in 2007.
Ruth Valentine’s many publications include her poetry collection The Tide Table (Slow Dancer, 1998). Her second collection, On the Saltmarsh, is forthcoming.
Ben Wilkinson was born in 1985 in Stafford. His poems have appeared in several magazines. A pamphlet is forthcoming from Tall-lighthouse in November.
