The Valley
This was the island where she smiled,
And in this valley filled with stone
Caressed the serpents coiled about
Her limbs and heard the waters groan
For loneliness she would not feel.
So dwelling, she would sing alone :
'Life's hunger, desolate and dry,
Has come at last to be my own.'
It's said that he came back for her
One night, came back across the sea,
But that she only laughed and said :
'These many years I've come to see
That dwelling here is not a hell
And only you still sicken me.'
